Dodgers News: Only Trea and Mookie advance to final vote in ASG

LOS ANGELES, CA — We’re a little under three weeks out, and the picture for the All Star starters is getting a little clearer. MLB released the final vote totals on Thursday afternoon, and only two of your LA Dodgers will be on the final ballot. That doesn’t mean there will be only two Dodgers on the team, mind you. It only means that two Dodgers will have the chance to be voted in by the fans.

To no one’s surprise, the two Dodgers who made the cut are Trea Turner and Mookie Betts. Betts was leading all vote getter in earlier tallies, but probably due to his injury, has been passed up by the Braves’ Ronald Acuna Jr. Mookie is still going through to the next round though, finishing second to Acuna by about 20,000 votes. Plus, the good news that he will be probably active gives fans a little more incentive to vote for him.

Trea Turner, on the other hand, still has a narrow lead over Atlanta shortstop Dansby Swanson. Hard to know how this one will turn out. Both the Dodgers and Braves have their share of haters, so it’s anybody’s guess where those votes go now…

Sadly, all the other Dodger position players finished out of the money, and will have to count on the kindness of strangers to get on the team. Freddie Freeman was third among first baggers. Will Smith was a distant fourth at catcher. Muncy, JT, and Lux were all in fourth place as well. In the outfield, Cody and CT3 finished ninth and eleventh in the final totals.

Turner and Betts will both move on to Phase 2, which begins at noon ET on July 5 and will continue until 2 p.m. ET on July 8, leading up to the 2022 Chevrolet MLB All-Star Starters Reveal show that night on MLB network.

During this period, fans can vote once a day for whom they want to see in the Midsummer Classic, and vote totals from Phase 1 don’t carry over.

The pitchers and reserves for both squads — totaling 23 players for each side — will be determined via “Player Ballot” choices and selections made by the Commissioner’s Office. The complete All-Star rosters will be announced during the 2022 Chevrolet MLB All-Star Selection Show on July 10.

The All-Star Game itself will be on July 19 at Dodger Stadium. Let’s put Trea and Mookie on the field in that first inning!!!
