Ryu Hits the Injured List

For the first time this season, Hyun-Jin Ryu was placed on the 10-day injured list with neck soreness. According to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, Ryu woke up yesterday with discomfort on the right side of his neck. It is not believed to be serious, but with the position the Dodgers are currently in (16 games ahead in NL West, best record in baseball), Ryu decided it was better to take time off and not risk pitching through injury and messing with his mechanics.

In a corresponding move, the Dodgers recalled right handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin. Prior to today’s game, Gonsolin threw off the main mound at Dodger Stadium with manager Dave Roberts, pitching coach Rick Honeycutt, and President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman watching on. Although nothing has been made official, it is expected that Gonsolin will make Ryu’s scheduled start on Monday night at home versus the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Dodgers made a handful of roster moves today including calling up top pitching prospect Dustin May. To make room for May on the 40 man roster, Scott Alexander was transferred to the 60-day injured list, effectively ending his season. Earlier today, Kyle Garlick was seen in the Dodgers clubhouse, but at time of writing (4:25 PT on Friday), no corresponding move has been announced. A.J. Pollock was removed from last night’s game after feeling tightness in his left groin, which could result in an IL stint, making room for Garlick on the active roster. Until a move is made, Garlick is available on taxi with Pollock, Verdugo, and Beaty all dealing with minor injuries, according to Gurnick. In addition, Dylan Floro was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Dustin May will make his MLB debut tonight versus the Padres. Go Dodgers.
