Dodgers News: LA adds several arms to IL

via USA Today

The Los Angeles Dodgers 2024 campaign is underway after a thrilling 5-2 victory over the division rival San Diego Padres.

However, prior to the start of the game, the Dodgers announced that they had placed seven pitchers on the injured list.

Right-handers Walker BuehlerBrusdar GraterolBlake Treinen, and Emmet Sheehan were placed on the 10-day injured list by the Dodgers before Wednesday night’s opener against the San Diego Padres, giving Los Angeles seven pitchers on the IL.

These players join fellow pitchers Dustin MayTony Gonsolin, and Clayton Kershaw, all placed on the 60-day IL while each recovering from arm and shoulder injuries.

Blake Treinen, who was having a great Spring upon returning from his shoulder woes, was hit by a comebacker against the Texas Rangers on March 9. While nothing was broken, the Dodgers listed the IL stint as a bruised lung.

Graterol has right shoulder inflammation and has not pitched in a game since his spring training debut on March 2. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts initially stated that Graterol would be available by domestic Opening Day (March 28), but that seems less likely now.

Buehler is recovering from Tommy John surgery on August 23, 2022, and the team already confirmed that he will be placed on a delayed start. Buehler mentioned on the Just Baseball Show that he will go on a rehab assignment once the Minor League season opens up.

However, perhaps the biggest revelation is that Dodgers young right-hander Emmet Sheehan who was shut down with “general soreness,” was placed on the IL with forearm inflammation. Sheehan, who threw the most innings in his professional career in 2023 between the Minors and Majors, is expected to miss more time than initially thought.

With the injuries, the Dodgers will count on rookies Gavin Stone and Kyle Hurt, along with relief pitcher JP Feyereisen, to pick up the slack while the others recover.
