GAME 30, 4/28/2024 : Dodgers 1, Blue Jays 3

TORONTO, CA — The Dodgers were looking for the sweep against the Blue Jays and their third sweep overall in the young season.

The Dodgers sent right-hander Michael Grove Sunday afternoon to begin the bullpen game for Los Angeles. He currently is seeking his first win and has a flat 6 ERA.

The Blue Jays also turned to their right-hander in Kevin Gausman, who is also looking for his first win of the season and is coming into this game with a 5.57 ERA.

Toronto led for the first time this series in the second after back-to-back hits led to back-to-back sacrifice hits by Daulton Varsho and Isiah Kiner-Falefa to put an early 2-0 lead on the board.

Alejandro Kirk capped off the scoring bid for the bluebirds in the second as he launched his first home run into the right-field bullpen.

Gausman was dealing against the Dodgers lineup until the sixth inning when Freddie Freeman squared up a fastball and launched a 425-foot solo shot over the center field wall, putting Los Angeles on the board.

The Dodgers came close to potentially taking the lead in the eighth after a 10-pitch walk was issued to Austin Barnes to start the inning, a double hit by Mookie Betts and an intentional walk given to Freeman, but both Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernandez could not capitalize.

With the bases loaded and two outs came Max Muncy, who was mere inches from hitting a go-ahead grand slam, but just resolved to be a loud out number three.

Toronto’s bullpen took over from there and shut out the Dodgers to avoid the sweep at home.

The Dodgers will now travel to Arizona to face the Diamondbacks for the final three games of their nine-game road trip starting Monday at 6:40 PM PT. James Paxton will be on the mound for Los Angeles to begin game one and Tommy Henry will get the start for Arizona.
