Game 28, 4/26/2024: Dodgers 12, Blue Jays 2

TORONTO, CANADA — The Los Angeles Dodgers arrived at the Rogers Centre coming off a series sweep over the Nationals in Washington to begin their nine-game road trip.

The Dodgers turned to right-handed pitcher Gavin Stone as he looks to bounce back from a short outing against the Mets last Saturday, only going three and a third innings and allowing two runs on four hits.

For the Blue Jays, Chris Bassitt was on the bump looking to bounce back from his previous start in which he pitched a loss against the Padres last Sunday.

Shohei Ohtani greeted Jays fans by launching his seventh home run of the season into the right-field bullpen, putting the Dodgers on top early in the first.

The Dodgers’ offense knocked Bassitt off the mound early as he went only 3.2 innings of work and allowed seven runs on nine hits. He gave up a six-run slugfest in the third that was capped off by a three-run shot hit by Max Muncy. Will Smith joined the hit parade with a homer of his own in the fourth, his second of the year, extending the Dodgers’ lead to eight.

The offense kept on brewing as Mookie Betts would follow up with an RBI double in the fifth. Muncy added another RBI by hitting an infield single in the sixth and a sacrifice fly by Andy Pages put the 11th run on the board for the Dodgers. The Dodgers capped off their scoring with a sacrifice fly by Smith, a season-high 12 run and his third RBI of the evening.

On the pitching side, Gavin Stone had the best start of his young career as he pitched seven strong innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out two bluebirds on 94 pitches.

Nick Ramirez pitched the final two innings and only allowed one run on three hits, while securing the fifth straight win for the Dodgers and taking game one of the series.

The Dodgers are now 17-11 and will resume action against the Blue Jays tomorrow at 12:07 PM PT as they look for the series win. Tyler Glasnow will take the bump for the Dodgers tomorrow against left hander Yusei Kikuchi.
