What a series it’s been so far at Petco Park between the Dodgers and Padres, it’s pretty safe to say this series sure has lived up to it’s hype and we are still yet to see Trevor Bauer on the mound!

Saturday was destined to be more of pitchers dual, which we sort of knew was going to happen with Clayton Kershaw and Yu Darvish set to start for their ball clubs. What we didn’t expect was another 9th inning nail biter and game winning miraculous catch by Mr. Markus Lynn Betts aka Mookie!

Let’s begin with King Kersh as he answers what was working for him:

It was a good game, Padres obviously have a lot of great hitters over there so just try to keep them off balance as best you can and overall guys came out of the pen tonight they did an unbelievable job and then you know that catch by Mookie was incredible; this is a good team win tonight it was awesome.

On Clayton earning a walk with bases loaded, what did he see from Darvish that allowed him to be so patient at the plate:

Just trying to be annoying really you know, I wasn’t going to get a hit off of him he’s got too good of stuff so just kind of like trying to be a nuisance as best you can, fouling off pitches and making him work a little bit and I’m fortunate to get a walk right there.

Yu Darvish also addressed the walk to Kershaw:

The walk to Kershaw, it wasn’t like I lost concentration there. I felt like I had good focus you know but things like that happen I mean it’s part of the game.

Justin Turner also spent some time with the media after the thriller at Petco Park, here’s Turner talking about his 9th inning homerun:

I swung through two fast balls already and I was just trying to shorten up my swing and move the ball forward put in play and um I got a good piece of it.

Justin Turner gives his thoughts on his early success at the plate in 2021:

Yeah, I’m not sure I don’t know what’s going on I know I usually get off to a pretty slow start and having some success early here which it’s just nice, it’s good to get off to a good start.

Mookie Betts was irrelevant Saturday night… I hope I just made your eyes roll! The man made an unbelievable catch to seal game 2 of this series in San Diego. If for some reason you have not seen this play watch it now below!

Mookie spoke with Kirsten Watson after the game and what went through his mind during that amazing catch:

I mean… I just kind of blacked out you know, you’re just kind of in the moment and paying the game I just know when the ball went up in the air I had to go catch it and that’s what I did.

You can watch the rest of his interview with Kirsten Watson below.

Finally, Manager Dave Roberts addressed the media after the game and shared an interesting stat on that amazing Mookie Betts catch:

Obviously that play by Mookie at the end of the game just his willingness to go out there and play center field; move guys around it’s just been real fun to watch… I just got word that the catch probability was 10 percent so Mookie, reacting time line to the baseball… heck of an athletic play.

Dave Roberts on the “catcher’s interference” play:

It was really late, I just didn’t understand the rule apparently because I saw the ball in Austin’s glove and so then there was contact afterwards in the glove and so I guess as the rule states if there ant contact with the bat you know it’s still a catch interference so I was just more… I didn’t obviously understand the rule and I’m just you know leery of protecting a catcher as far as that late of a swing and you know you can break a guy’s hand.

Sunday Trevor Bauer gets set to hit the mound vs San Diego in what I’m sure will be another exciting ballgame full of drama!
