Fernando Valenzuela To Have Number Retired By Charros De Jalisco Beisbol

Los Angeles Dodgers legend Fernando Valenzuela will have his #34 jersey retired by Charros de Jalisco Beisbol from the Liga Mexicana del Pacífico this weekend. Valenzuela pitched for the Charros in 1992 and 1994. The ceremony will take place this Friday night, November 14th. After the sixth inning, the President of Charros de Jalisco, Armando Navarro Pena, will honor the former Dodgers pitcher. On Sunday November 16th, he will sign autographs for children.

On Saturday the team will unveil a bronze statue of to honor Valenzuela for his accomplishments as the 1981 Cy Young Award winner and Rookie of the Year. In 1981, Fernando led a cultural movement, Fernandomania, which swept through Los Angeles.
