Maeda Looks Sharp as Dodgers Take First Game of Homestand

Kenta Maeda appeared to shake off any lingering issues after his stint on the DL, going seven scoreless innings Monday night in the Dodgers 2-1 victory over the Cubs. Maeda struck out nine, walked one, and allowed just three hits and is now 5-4 for the season.

Enrique Hernandez and pinch-hitting Chris Taylor both homered for the Dodger’s two runs.

The top of the ninth got a bit tense as Kenley Jansen got called on a balk that moved Ben Zobrist to second with one out.  Zobrist went on to score on a sac-fly from Javier Baez which led to the 2nd out of the inning. Ahead by just one run, Jansen finally shut it down to get his 20th save as Kyle Schwarber grounded out to end the game.

The Dodgers have three more against the Cubs as Ross Stripling and John Lester face off tonight in Los Angeles.

Game time tonight is 7:10 pm, PST.
